When a Kiss Isn’t Enough to Make It All Better: A Parent’s Guide to Catastrophic Child Injury
When a child is seriously injured, parents are suddenly faced with questions they never expected to ask. What happens next? How do I protect my child? Who can I trust? What are my rights?
When a Kiss Isn’t Enough to Make It All Better: A Parent’s Guide to Catastrophic Child Injury was created to help parents and caregivers navigate those difficult questions with greater knowledge, confidence, and support.
Drawing on more than 50 years of experience representing injured children and their families, attorneys Thomas M. Kiley Sr. and Thomas M. Kiley Jr. provide a compassionate and practical guide to child safety, serious injury, the legal process, insurance companies, and the steps families can take when an accident changes everything.
Inside, readers will find guidance on:
- Understanding when a child injury may involve negligence
- Important steps to take after a serious accident
- Working with attorneys and insurance companies
- Protecting and documenting a potential injury claim
- Traumatic brain injuries and birth trauma
- Motor vehicle and bicycle accidents
- Dog bites
- Burns
- Defective products and household injuries
- Swimming and water-related injuries
- Daycare, school, and playground injuries
- Wrongful death
- Finding support, treatment, rehabilitation, and additional resources
But this book is about more than legal claims. It is about helping parents protect their children, understand the road ahead, and find the resources and support they may need during one of the most difficult experiences a family can face.
As the authors remind parents throughout these pages, you do not have to face it alone.
Whether you are caring for an injured child, looking for information about child safety and accident prevention, or simply want to be better prepared should the unexpected happen, When a Kiss Isn’t Enough to Make It All Better is a resource every parent and caregiver should have within reach.
Knowledge cannot undo an accident, but it can help a family determine what comes next.
