Death is called an enemy. Revelation declares that Death and Hades will surrender their dead, face judgment, and disappear from the renewed creation. But what does Scripture mean when it speaks of death—and what must happen when death itself dies?
When Death Dies follows the biblical death-order from the Hebrew Scriptures through Daniel, the teachings of Jesus, Paul’s resurrection argument, and Revelation’s final vision. It distinguishes bodily death, covenantal death, spiritual death, Sheol, Hades, the lake of fire, and the second death without forcing them into a single category.
The investigation examines:
- Hosea’s declaration that Ephraim “died” while continuing to live and sin.
- Isaiah’s promise that Death will be swallowed forever.
- Daniel’s kingdoms, time formulas, resurrection, and judgment.
- Luke’s “times of the nations.”
- Revelation’s forty-two months, Death and Hades, and the second death.
- Paul’s announcement that the last enemy—Death—will be abolished.
- The meaning of Revelation 21:4: “Death shall be no more.”
- The competing cases for eternal conscious torment, conditional immortality, restorative judgment, and symbolic exclusion.
Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic guides allow nonspecialists to examine the controlling language without pretending that grammar alone can settle theology. Visual doctrine plates, a glossary, Scripture and subject indexes, source notes, and a selected bibliography make the evidence accessible and auditable.
The resulting judgment is direct but carefully bounded: final punishment may be conscious, severe, and proportionate, yet the controlling biblical language most strongly supports conditional immortality and final destruction. Eternal conscious torment and restorative judgment remain fully represented through their strongest evidence and unresolved objections.
This is not a devotional treatment or a catalogue of inherited conclusions. It is a disciplined investigation of what Scripture means by death, how its language develops across the canon, and whether the biblical story ends with Death reigning forever—or with Death finally dead.
