"Living in Canada is always exciting because people arrive here all the time, Matthew."
Matthew is curious about his heritage as he is learning about the history of Canada. In investigating his family history, he discovers what it truly means to be a Canadian. This story explores the importance of recognizing how the Canadian identity is grounded in immigration.
Lovely illustrations in this book walk you through the family conversation and the text warms you up to the diversity of Canada. This story discusses many different scenarios to throw light on reasons for immigration and situations that encourage people to move places.
The last page in the book makes a statement about the shared land of Canada and the role of Indigenous peoples in Canadian history.
The Author uses her teaching background to share the connections of this book to classroom teaching through 'A Note to Teachers'.
