Wheelock's "Latin" first appeared in 1956, the reviews extolled its thoroughness, organization, & conciseness; one reviewer predicted that the book "might well become the standard text" for introducing students to elementary Lain. Now, more than seven decades later, that prediction has certainly proved accurate. The Revised Seventh Edition of "Wheelock's Latin" retains all of the outstanding features which have made it the leading Latin beginning textbook, many of them improved & expanded, including: (1) 40 chapters w/ grammatical explanations & readings drawn from the works of Rome's major prose & verse writers, (2) Self-tutorial exercises w/ answer key for independent study, (3) Extensive English-Latin / Latin-English vocabulary, (4) A rich selection of original Latin readings (unlike other textbooks which primarily offer generic "made-up" Latin texts), (5) Etymological aids, maps & numerous images illustrating aspects of classical culture & mythology presented in the chapter readings. Also included are expanded notes on the literary passages, comments on vocabulary, translation tips, new comprehension & discussion questions, & new authentic classical Latin readings (including Roman graffiti), in every chapter.* HIGHEST PRAISE: "Generations of students have learned Latin successfully from Wheelock's venerable text. LaFleur preserves the best features of the original book, while adapting it to meet 21st century demands." -Professor Anne H. Groton, St. Olaf College -- "The new edition makes a world of difference." -Professor Robert A. Kaster, Princeton University -- "For those long familiar with 'Wheelock's Latin', the new edition shows the continuing vitality of a venerable pedagogical classic." - Professor William Hyland, St. Norbert College * ALSO AVAILABLE FROM MNEMOSYNE: "Workbook for Wheelock's Latin, A Companion to the 7th Edition", Title No. 9505 * SHIPPING: MNEMOSYNE custom wraps, labels & packages this fine book w/ our greatest care for secure prompt FREE shipment via USPS MEDIA MAIL within the United States (or via USPS PRIORITY MAIL for a nominal additional $12.00 fee), & to all international destinations at our posted below-cost rates.…
