Review
....According to Jamie Murphy, researcher and author of What Every
Parent Should Know about Childhood Immunization, the combined death rate of
diphtheria, measles, scarlet fever, and pertussis, the leading causes of
death in children aged 1 to 14 from 1911 to 1945, declined 95 percent
before the mass immunization programs started in the United States.----Anne
Sylvia
-- Spirit of Change Magazine, September/October 1996
...Recommended for collections providing information on
alternative medicine or those attempting to provide comprehensive consumer
health coverage--Mary J. Jarvis, Methodist Hospital Medical Library,
Lubbock, Texas -- Library Journal, January 1994
Jamie Murphy's book offers a detailed, well researched critique of
childhood immunization, and it is book that every parent with young
children will want to read. But this book should also be of great interest
to animal advocates who wish to become better informed on the connections
between vaccine development, animal experiments, and medical history....Mr.
Murphy's book is a well documented and insightful source on an important
topic.----Jon Schottland -- Update, New England Anti-Vivisecion Society, Spring 1994
Murphy's book is important in part simply because it is only one
of only a few that shed light on the little-known hazards of vaccination.
(Vaccination is the term sometimes used instead of immunization, since, as
Murphy shows, vaccines do not guarantee immunity from childhood diseases.)
Many contain toxins, and some are known to cause injurious reactions--even
death. Despite, or perhaps because of, this disturbing evidence, most
parents seem afraid to investigate the issue, and some are unaware of it.
Then, too, there are those parents who decline to inoculate their
children---a controversial but conscious decision. The book's availability
is libraries is critical; Murphy's thoroughly researched and
well-documented effort will, one hopes, make decisions about inoculation
somewhat easier. Murphy should especially be commended for emphasizing the
development of natural immunities, such as occur when babies are
breast-fed.--Jo Peer Haas -- Booklist, American Library Association, October 1, 1993
