Paperback. Conventional wisdom applauds those who chase their dreams. But what happens when that dream turns into a mistake? Especially when the odds are so long and the cost is so great. "What Luck" is a tragic tale about a failed stand-up comic who should have stayed in college. For years, Daryl Carroll has been living the life of a starving artist; honing his craft and playing by the rules. But his full-scale dedication and ample talents aren't enough, and the big career break never materializes. As hope of ever achieving his dream fade, desperation and paranoia settle in. His drive to succeed turns into obsession and his motivation turns to revenge.Author Dwight York writes from experience. His stand-up comedy career has spanned more than 30 years. His struggles to remain relevant and earn a living have been lifelong. It's said that stand-up comedy is a brutal business and the "lucky break" is a requirement for success. In his new novella, York exposes the dark side of the comedy world and explores the question of luck. It's the story of a lonely loser whose battle becomes one against his own better judgment; that he's doomed, forever to be a failure.
