Item description from seller

16mo. Stiff wrappers. (4pp). Fine. NOT a speech or essay, but rather a program for the 127th meeting of this distinguished group held at New York's famed club The Lambs, the topic of the meeting as announced on the front wrapper being this speech. Near the center of this, Mearns signs boldly in full in black fountain pen. Mearns (1899-1981) was the noted Chief of the Manuscript Division at the Library of Congress for many years, a well-known Lincoln scholar who edited "The Lincoln Papers" (1948), "Three Presidents and Their Books" (1955) and "Largely Lincoln" (1961), among others. Inside left consists of the program itinerary, inside right a thumbnail biography of Mearns, outside rear wrapper a list of noted deceased CWRT members. From the collection of noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar ARNOLD F. GATES (1914-93; CWRT president 1965-66). A handsome and unusual memento.
