The storm sirens should have gone off. The warning flags should have been raised. The speaker system should have told everyone to get off the pier.
None of that happened.
When a sudden squall bears down on West Inlet Pier, four seventh-graders notice what the adults miss: the safety systems aren't just failing—they've been *disabled*. With hundreds of beachgoers trapped and the storm closing fast, Finn, Isaiah, Mei, and Mari have minutes to coordinate an evacuation that no one asked them to lead.
But getting everyone to safety is only the beginning. Because someone wanted that pier to fail. Someone who thought a little "weather damage" would go unnoticed.
They thought wrong.
Now four kids with sharp eyes and good notes are asking questions that powerful people don't want answered. And in Marshhaven, the truth doesn't stay buried for long.
