Web Development with Elixir and Phoenix: High-Performance, Concurrent, and Real-Time Applications on the BEAM is your complete guide to mastering modern web development through the power of functional programming and the BEAM virtual machine. Designed for both new and experienced developers, this book introduces you to Elixir’s elegant syntax, Phoenix’s productivity, and the BEAM’s fault-tolerant architecture enabling you to build scalable, concurrent, and reliable applications that handle thousands of real-time connections with ease.
Starting with the fundamentals, you’ll learn Elixir’s functional principles, pattern matching, and concurrency model before progressing into Phoenix’s modular structure, routing, and request lifecycle. You’ll discover how to connect with databases using Ecto, build interactive interfaces using LiveView, and handle real-time events using Channels and PubSub. Each chapter is filled with clear explanations, practical code examples, and real-world case studies that translate complex concepts into hands-on experience.
You’ll also explore advanced topics such as clustering for distributed systems, monitoring performance with Telemetry, security best practices, and deploying Phoenix applications using Docker and cloud platforms. By the end of the book, you’ll not only understand how to build fast and fault-tolerant systems you’ll have the practical skills to run and scale them in production environments.Whether you’re a backend engineer looking for improved scalability, a full-stack developer aiming to master real-time web technologies, or a professional transitioning from object-oriented programming to functional paradigms, this book gives you everything you need to build robust, future-ready web applications.
Key Learnings Include:
- The fundamentals of the Elixir language and BEAM architecture
- Building and structuring Phoenix applications for performance and clarity
- Implementing real-time updates with LiveView and Channels
- Handling data effectively with Ecto schemas, queries, and changesets
- Benchmarking, profiling, and optimizing applications for concurrency
- Securing applications with authentication, authorization, and encryption
- Deploying scalable systems using Docker, clustering, and CI/CD pipelines
Unlike traditional web frameworks that focus on speed at the cost of reliability, Phoenix and Elixir offer both. You’ll learn not just how to write code but how to build systems that stay online, self-heal, and scale effortlessly.
Build the future of web development one concurrent process at a time.
Start mastering Elixir and Phoenix today and create web applications that are fast, fault-tolerant, and ready for real-time performance.Get your copy now and start building next-generation, scalable web applications with Elixir and Phoenix.
