She became famous both in Great Britain and the United States for her evangelical writings, with leading preachers such as D. L. Moody sometimes quoting from them. She "occupies a niche all her own; for while all her chapters could be described as sermons, they are unique sermons, after the order of those of Frances Ridley Havergal.
