The Way of the Woman Writer is a book for women who wish to write about their lives but don’t know how to begin. This book is unlike other autobiographical writing books on the market because it addresses the concerns, needs, and feminist issues that are important to women writers. Roseman's approach concentrates on the internal process of the woman writer as she writes about her life. The author shows how women can bring a sophisticated touch when writing about their lives by avoiding a simplistic, stereotypical, and condescending manner when writing their stories. The Way of the Woman Writer is not a formula book, and throughout, the writer is urged to write about the experiences and moments in her life which SHE deems relevant.Women who want to write but don’t know how or where to begin, women who are isolated, and women who lack confidence about their writing skills can find the impetus to begin in this inspiring book. They will feel empowered and challenged by the author's constructive writing advice and by the writings of other women she includes. These writing samples offer the reader a diverse sampling of how women can write about their truth, whether ”pretty” or not. The samples also enable readers to realize that all writing is ”correct” and that women do not have to prescribe to a particular formula to write about their lives. Both beginning and expert women writers will be excited by The Way of the Woman Writer. It is an inspirational, uplifting, and truthful book that fully respects a woman’s life. Concluding the book is a group of resources to assist women writers who need a network of other writers and writers’ organizations. As every woman has a story to tell, women readers (and writers!) interested in documenting their lives--whether they are journalists, creative writing teachers, women’s studies instructors or students, or retired women--can use this book to get started.
