Pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with light foxing. Binding has remained firm. Front endpaper has been removed. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing. End-papers are more notably foxed. Plates are bright and clear. Rear map is a little creased. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Board corners are bumped. Mottling to bottom edge of front board. Mild crushing to spine ends, with fraying cloth and small splits. Hardcover. Condition: Good. 2nd Edition. Hardback, no dust wrapper. Second edition, revised June 1939. Blue cloth with gilt spine titles. 394pp, inc. index, with b&w photo illus. and a fold-out map at rear. Binding sound. Blue cloth has some general marking and is damp-affected around the top of the spine causing marking to the cloth and very minor damp-dimpling to the paper internally. A small area of the lower back corner has been softened and bleached by a separate damp attack. Eps browned. A tear at the fixing point of map has been neatly repaired, plus a tiny margin tear. First edition. Large 8vo. xiv, 394, (2) pp. Publisher's blue cloth, gilt lettered to the spine, old ownership inscription of a William Ford-Kirkpatrick of Lambeg, Co. Antrim to the front free endpaper plus another, presumably earlier, Co. Cork inscription of a different owner crossed out, a more recent bookplate underneath this.
