In twenty-five volumes. "Library Edition." Tall 8vo., full contemporary navy calf, raised bands, elaborate gilt compartments, crimson and tan leather spine labels, with a blind stamped pictorial decoration of Sir Walter Scott on the upper board, T.E.G. With illustrations by Thomas Faed, Noel Paton, Birket Foster, William Powell Firth etal. A fine attractive set. The Library Edition was one of the first of many editions of the Waverley novels published by A.& C. Black after their purchase of the copyright from Robert Caddell in 1851. "Intended as something of a follow-up to Cadell's Abbotsford Edition, the Library Edition incorporated the best Abbotsford engravings as frontispieces, along with newly commissioned illustrations, and maintained the luxury of Cadell's twelve volume Abbotsfored in a more practical physical format."
