This detailed map of Waukegan, Illinois and the surrounding area provides a fascinating snapshot of Chicago's popular North Shore suburb in the mid-20th century. Buildings are individually outlined, roads are shown according to their surface composition (further info lower right), and geographic information is transmitted via pictorial elements and contoured topography. Locations of interest within the image include the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Camp Logan, northern Lake Forest, and the Libertyville Trotting Association Track. The map was originally published in 1906 by the United States Geological Survey under the authority of geographer H.M. Wilson. This example has been updated to reflect changes as of 1959. Sheet Width (in) 16.75 Sheet Height (in) 20.75 Condition Description A few dirty fingerprints in the upper right margin and the sheet is faintly toned around the edge, consistent with age.
