Still Waters: The Slow Kill is a gripping standalone mystery that exposes the quiet devastation of elder financial abuse and predatory deception in a tight-knit coastal community. In the resilient fishing town of Sutter's Landing, Maine, Tom Kessler-harbor patriarch and guardian of his family's legacy-opens his home and heart to Maren Crane, a composed and capable newcomer fleeing a painful divorce. What begins as quiet help with paperwork and repairs soon becomes something far more dangerous. As Maren inserts herself into Tom's business, nonprofit, and finances, Chief Ansel Greer notices unsettling patterns: upgraded insurance, restructured accounts, and a suspicious fire that destroys generations of Kessler history. With a suspicious orange tabby cat as the only unwavering witness, this slow-burning tale of trust, isolation, and calculated betrayal builds to a tense reckoning. Blending the atmospheric charm of a coastal cozy with the procedural depth of a police investigation, Greg Voss delivers a haunting story about how the best qualities in people-generosity, loyalty, and community-can be weaponized against them.Perfect for fans of small-town mysteries, stories of financial crime, and novels that explore the hidden dangers lurking behind kindness.
