Synopsis:

Twenty years ago, on the 9th of August 1974, Richard Nixon resigned from the Presidency of the United States, the only President ever to have done so. Had he not, he faced impeachment. It was the climax of an amazing series of events - political 'dirty tricks', bugging, burglaries - which the White House not only sponsored but tried, vainly, to cover up, events known collectively as 'Watergate. ' This is the narrative history of Watergate from beginning to end, told by Fred Emery, now a presenter for Panorama, who was Washington Bureau Chief of THE TIMES during the whole period. It is linked to a major BBC TV series, to be broadcast simultaneously, and contains much fresh material. (Emery is also responsible for the TV Series. )

About the Author: Fred Emery, formerly executive editor of The Times, served as the paper's Washington Bureau chief from 1970 to 1977. He is now a presenter for the BBC television programme Panorama and is the man behind the BBC-TV series to which the book is linked, 'Watergate'.
