Two volumes complete in one: xii, 324, 336pp. Bound in full black leather with elaborately tooled boards and decorative gilt lettering on the spine; this original hardcover binding is solid and holding strong with light rubbing to the board extremities. The interior has several previous owner's names, all in pencil and in early hands. The text is clean and unmarked with some light scattered foxing, especially to the frontis and title page. About ten pages in the middle of the book are slightly loose, but still holding; the rest of the leaves are securely and tightly bound. Overall, a nice clean copy in a solid and attractive original binding. NOT ex-library. Illustrated with several engraved portraits.
