Item description from seller

-A caution and warning to Great-Britain and her colonies, in a Short representation of the calamitous state of the Enslaved negroes in the British Dominions : Collected from various Authors, and submitted to the Serious consideration of all, more especially of those in power- Philadelphia: Printed by Henry Miller, 1766 Author: Anthony Benezet An overlooked pamphlet from the Americas, this of extreme historical value, giving insight on what American & English attitude was concerning the black slavery question in 1766; like how many people even knew it existed? He starts by saying “with all this talk of Liberty going on now, our brothers should not be overlooked”. He shares his own witness as well as quotes various published accounts, like William Smith who was sent to Guinea by the African Company in 1726: “They have incited them to make war one upon another, and for this purpose have furnished them with prodigious quantities of ammunition and arms, whereby they have been hurried into confusion; bloodshed, and all the extremities of temporal misery”. Setting up warlords & arming them to to war against each other when before hand they lived in peace, all this to pillage them? What has changed? The author goes into great detail of the true horrors of the British sanctioned slave trade, evidently working to prove the fact it even exists to some. At this time, it seems it most the slaves from Africa were long in the British West Indies, & and that it was just beginning to creep its’ head in the British Southern Colonies, specifically, Georgia. This is interesting as the first “white” child recorded to be born in the Colony of GA was a J-ew. And any student of the American “revolution”, knows that even as late as 1775 & 76, they referred to themselves as the 12 united colonies, not 13. And in all discourse back & forth with Britain, Georgia was never involved. They really only took a side when it was won. Perhaps if they of the North would have said “no Georgy, no!”, we would have lost the “revolution”. The slaves were not being sold to Britain from the middle east at all, but by African kings we’d prop up & sponsor constant horrible warfare. It’s constantly, “Guinea, Guinea, Guinea” going all the way to the beginning of the 1700s; and below it, what they call “Slave-Coast”. With the high level of detail the man gives, the quality of the sources, I feel this is an invaluable document to have on hand, as today their are many false things said about of the slave trade during this era, including where the slaves came from, who sold them and why. This guy names names, companies, quotes their official documents, etc. It’s a small pamphlet not more than 100 pages, & an exact facsimile of the original restored & enhanced by us at BaumBookSanto. If any would like to enhanced black & white version we’ve made of the document, just email us and we’ll send it for free.
