You already know more than you think. The question is, do you know how to use it?
What if consulting isn’t a career change, but a shift in how you think?
So You Want to Be a Consultant
A practical guide to turning expertise into a trusted advisory practice
Consulting is widely misunderstood. It’s not about having all the answers. It’s not about selling services. Consulting is a mindset. It’s the ability to define problems clearly, apply experience with discipline, and deliver value others can trust.
In So You Want to Be a Consultant, Lembo draws on decades of real-world experience in facilities management, engineering, and professional services to explain how to become a consultant and what it actually takes to build a credible consulting practice.
This is not theory, and it’s not a startup gimmick. It’s a practical guide for experienced professionals who want to transition into consulting, start an independent consulting practice, or operate as a trusted advisor within their field.
Inside this book, you’ll discover:
- How to become a consultant by leveraging your existing experience
- Why consulting begins with how you think, not what you call yourself
- How to clearly define your expertise in a sentence or two
- The Consultant’s Triad: Expertise, Trust, and Value
- Where your experience translates into real consulting opportunities
- How to build credibility and avoid common consulting mistakes
- Practical tools to help you structure and communicate your consulting services
Whether you are exploring consulting as a side business, launching an independent consulting practice, or repositioning your career toward advisory work, this book provides a clear, experience-based roadmap.
Direct, practical, and grounded in real-world consulting experience, this book is written for professionals who are ready to move beyond execution and begin operating as trusted advisors.
This isn’t about becoming something new. It’s about recognizing what you already are and refining your most important deliverable: you.
So ask yourself:
Am I ready to think differently about my experience and what it might be worth?
If the answer is yes, this book will show you where to start.
