In this powerful memoir, Robert Nelson takes readers on a raw, emotional journey through his turbulent childhood and the scars that shaped his adult life. Born into a household where violence, fear, and silence were the norm, Robert's early years were filled with trauma and confusion. From witnessing his mother's abuse to enduring humiliating punishments from his father, his young life was marked by darkness. Yet, even amid the despair, small moments of escape offered brief glimpses of hope. As Robert grew older, he sought refuge in the military, hoping to outrun the shadows of his past. But, like many who face unresolved trauma, his struggles continued, leading him through painful relationships, lost connections, and a path of self-doubt. Waking Up in September is a poignant reflection on the long-lasting impact of childhood abuse, the power of forgiveness, and the complex journey to self-healing. In this courageous and deeply personal account, Robert Nelson opens up about his painful past with a sense of honesty and vulnerability that invites the reader into his story. From the brokenness of his youth to the redemptive moments of his adulthood, this memoir is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, the necessity of confronting one's demons, and the possibility of redemption.
