There are 175 photos in this 8.5" x 12 photo album, which shows the German military on the eastern front during WWII. Printed on the front cover is "Kriegs-Erinnerungen im Ostfeldzug, von Gefc. Franz Schiffner," which translates to War Memories in the East Campaign, by Franz Schiffner." The typewritten text on the first page translates to "Remembrances of the Eastern Campaign from May, 1942 (France) to the victorious advance on the Don. By PVT. Franz Schiffner." There are twelve pages of typewritten text in German, and another five pages containing an index of the photos shown. Someone in the past translated the index into English. These translations are detailed with names and places. A few include: Ukrainians walking to the food exchange, Artillery positions at Sorobowk, Fallen horses are salvaged by the locals, graves of the first casualties from the attack at Sorobowka, Soviet positions and fallen Russians, shot down Russian airplane, Russian prisoners, crew of 1st artillery unit, awarding of Iron Cross 2nd class to Sgt Eger and Pvt Troger by the commanding officer at Artillery Position Maljutin, etc. Each photo measures about 1.75" x 2.25" and they are glued to the page. All of the photos have a handwritten number on the border. These numbers are out of order on the page, but each photo is identified in the index. The twelve pages of text has not been translated, but it appears to be quite an interesting story, illustrated by the photos. The album is complete. The covers are tattered and both covers are detached. Some of the pages have light staining or edge wear. A fascinating album.
