Writing Effective Lesson Plans: A 5-Star Approach
ISBN: 020551149X
“The idea of a lesson-planning workbook is fascinating; the contents and second chapter of [The 5-Star Lesson Plan] suggest that it can be done ― that the concept of lesson planning can be taught explicitly and systematically in a relatively short time. The author(s) are to be commended for trying to bridge theory and practice in this important area of pre-service teacher preparation.”
- Mary F. Leslie, Louisiana State University, Eunice
“The materials approach beginning lesson planning methodically with rational, understandable, specific explanations that are presented in a developmentally appropriate manner.”
- Nancy Brashear, Azusa Pacific University
Combining concise theoretical explanations with practical, hands-on activities, Writing Effective Lesson Plans: A 5-Star Approach is a foolproof teacher’s guide to designing and developing successful lesson plans.
Developed by two educators with experience in both elementary and secondary classrooms, the 5-Star approach to lesson planning is a step-by-step procedure designed to streamline the detailed process of lesson planning and make teaching performance smoother and more efficient. Coined as the Five-Star Lesson Plan by the authors, this model consists of five classic components: lesson description, goals and objectives, materials and tools, procedures, and reflective assessment and evaluation.
Features:
-
Each chapter is introduced with a short, descriptive preview of the chapter’s objectives.
-
Hands-on, workbook style approach prompts you to plan, to write, and to reflect upon possible lesson planning scenarios as you read.
-
“What’s the Plan?” asks you targeted reflective questions about the content and allows you to ponder and write in the book.
-
“Your Turn: Practice Sheets” allow the teacher to apply the concepts they’ve learned to their real-life classroom.
-
The Appendix is full of helpful accompaniments, including guidelines for lesson planning projects, analysis activities, sample lesson plans, and a blank 5-Star Lesson Plan Worksheet to use as you plan your first lesson.
Writing Effective Lesson Plans: A 5-Star Approach is a one-stop resource that encourages deep and thoughtful learning of a skill that is often not sufficiently developed in teacher preparation programs or in classroom experiences.
