4to. 29.5x24cm. Six hefty volumes, weight up to 20Kg. Defective copy, missing Plates 5 & 6 from Vol. II. Vol. I:- pp(2)CCXXXVIII,799(1) with frontispiece portrait and 3 plates on 2 leaves. Vol. II:- pp(2)800 with 4 plates on 3 leaves. Vol. III:- pp(2)803(1) with 8 plates on 5 leaves. Vol. IV:- pp(2)821(1) with 6 plates on 3 leaves. Vol. V:- pp(2)750 with 1 plate. Vol. VI:- pp(2)796(130) including index for all six volumes. 23 (of 25) plates in total, plus engraving common to all title-pages, a number of in-text figures, and occasional tailpieces. Original half calf. Spines with five raised bands, gilt titles & volume numbers, and modest gilt decorations; spines of Vols. I, II, V & VI with evidence of restorations of some age. Marbled paper-covered boards. Original endpapers, armorial bookplate on each front pastedown. Spines a little rubbed at heads and tails, with here & there a little wear with loss at corners. Spine of Vol. I with partly-split central crease along almost entire length. Spine of Vol. VI, and to much lesser effects & extents spines of Vols. IV & V, previously exposed to white (matt) and pale lilac (gloss) paint sprays or spillages or splashings in form of spots of variable sizes and specks, removal of the more conspicuous effects resulting in a number of grazes, and a little loss of gilt mainly to decoration in lowest compartment of Vol. I; scatterings mainly in the form of specks remaining. Board surfaces of these three volumes only slightly affected. In addition:- fore-edge of text-block of Vol. V with very thin pale paint stain along entire length adjacent to rear board, of width up to 1.5cm except for bulge of width up to 3.5cm along 5cm, contrasting only moderately with unaffected parts of fore-edge / a few minor spots & specks on upper- & lower edges of text-blocks of all three volumes / in all cases, no effects whatsoever on margins of contents. For these and other volumes:- some hinges a little rubbed / rear hinge of Vol. IV split along entire length, with rear board loosened and held by only one cord / board surfaces variably but mainly lightly rubbed and/or grazed / shelf edges variably rubbed, along which variable paper losses; rubbing and paper losses along other edges to lesser extents / outer corners of boards variably rubbed and/or bumped and/or curled, some with loss of hide at & around corner tips / some endpapers partially or completely split along hinges; hinge at front endpapers of Vol. V reinforced with neatly applied white fabric strip of width 4cm / upper edges of text-blocks quite deeply darkened, densely speckled other edges a little age-toned. One leaf - pages 155/156 - of Vol. II with brown patch confined to margins at lower outer corner, and lower margin of page 154 a little soiled; otherwise, contents of all six volumes generally clean, tight and crisp, the text with generous margins. Apart from Vol. IV, bindings holding firmly, and despite effects of paint on spines of Vols. IV, V & VI, a set of decent shelf appearance. Missing twp plates, otherwise a Very Good copy. If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to J. R. Young, Birmingham, United Kingdom, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
