Large 4to. 9.25 x 12.5 inches. 120 pp. Bound in original cloth, gilt in pictorial dust wrapper which is sunned along top edge; otherwise a very good copy. Signed gift inscription from author to Admiral and Mrs Brock, 1978 on half title. Loosely inserted: 1988 Obituary notice of Rear-Admiral Patrick Willet Brock (1902-88) and prospectus for The Wind in the Oak, [4] pp., folded. Bookplate Illustrated throughout in colour and black and white. An account of the life and work of the marine, later landscape artist, Claude Muncaster (1903-74). In his early career he sailed round the Horn before the mast in a grain ship. During the war he was the Admiralty's camouflage expert, working in the office of Commander Brock, to whom this book is inscribed. He served as President of the Royal Society of Marine Artists for nearly twenty years. The author is his son, Martin Muncaster (b.1934), BBC radio and TV broadcaster, actor and producer. Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields.
