Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Gnani Yoga & Psychic Healing — Five Books
This volume forms part of the 2026 edition of the Complete Collection of works by the prolific and enlightened author William Walker Atkinson. Each book has been introduced and annotated by M.C. Mesen, a renowned scholar and translator of Atkinson’s works, who has also prepared a study guide for the collection.
Volume Nine continues the Yogi Ramacharaka series with five influential works devoted to physical well-being, mental development, spiritual knowledge, psychic healing, and natural methods of restoring vitality. Together, these books present a broad and practical course in the yogic understanding of body, mind, health, and consciousness.
Hatha Yoga explores the physical foundations of the yogic life, including breathing, nourishment, exercise, relaxation, bodily awareness, and the cultivation of vitality. Rather than presenting the body as separate from spiritual development, the work treats physical well-being as an essential support for mental clarity, self-discipline, and inner growth.
Raja Yoga turns to the training and mastery of the mind. Through a progressive series of lessons, Atkinson examines attention, concentration, perception, will, mental control, and the awakening of latent faculties. The reader is encouraged to become an active observer and director of thought rather than remaining subject to habitual impulses and uncontrolled mental activity.
Gnani Yoga approaches the philosophical path of knowledge and self-realization. It explores the nature of the true Self, the relationship between the individual and the Absolute, the illusion of separateness, and the gradual expansion of consciousness toward a deeper understanding of reality.
The volume also includes The Science of Psychic Healing, which examines the influence of mind, suggestion, vital force, and mental states upon health, as well as Practical Water Cure, a concise guide to the traditional therapeutic use of water in maintaining physical balance and supporting the body’s natural processes.
Together, these five works offer a comprehensive introduction to the physical, mental, philosophical, and healing dimensions of the Yogi Ramacharaka teachings. They are valuable reading for students of yoga philosophy, meditation, breathwork, natural health, mental discipline, self-healing, and spiritual development.
