Paperback. The successful delivery of construction mega projects remains one of the greatest challenges facing governments, developers, contractors, consultants, investors, and infrastructure organizations worldwide. Every year, trillions of dollars are invested in highways, airports, metro systems, railways, ports, tunnels, bridges, power plants, industrial facilities, smart cities, water infrastructure, hospitals, and urban developments. These projects are expected to stimulate economic growth, improve quality of life, create employment opportunities, and shape the future of nations. Yet despite remarkable advances in engineering, digital technologies, project management methodologies, and construction practices, the global construction industry continues to experience an alarming rate of project failure. Cost overruns exceeding billions of dollars, multi-year schedule delays, contractual disputes, quality failures, safety incidents, stakeholder conflicts, and operational underperformance have become common characteristics of many mega projects across both developed and developing economies. The paradox is striking. Modern organizations possess sophisticated Building Information Modeling (BIM), Digital Twins, Artificial Intelligence (AI), predictive analytics, drones, Common Data Environments (CDE), enterprise resource planning systems, advanced scheduling software, and integrated project controls. Nevertheless, project delivery performance has not improved at the same pace as technological advancement. The reason is simple. Construction mega projects do not fail because of technology. They fail because of management. More specifically, they fail because of weaknesses in governance, leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder management, communication, decision-making, risk management, project controls, procurement, contract administration, resource optimization, quality assurance, safety management, and construction execution. These failures rarely occur independently. Instead, they interact throughout the project lifecycle, creating a chain reaction that ultimately compromises project performance. This book has been written to address that challenge.Unlike many project management books that focus only on planning techniques or individual knowledge areas, this volume adopts a holistic systems-thinking approach to understanding why construction mega projects fail and, more importantly, how those failures can be prevented. The book examines failure from strategic, organizational, commercial, technical, and operational perspectives. Every chapter explores a major cause of project failure, analyzes why it occurs, examines its consequences, and presents practical management frameworks that can be immediately applied on real-world projects. Drawing upon internationally recognized standards and best practices-including PMBOK(R), AACE International Recommended Practices, FIDIC Conditions of Contract, ISO Management Standards, Lean Construction principles, Systems Thinking, Digital Engineering, BIM, Project Controls, Risk Management, and lessons learned from major international infrastructure projects-this book provides a comprehensive roadmap for improving project delivery performance. Rather than treating project management disciplines as isolated functions, the book demonstrates how governance, leadership, planning, engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, commissioning, and operations must function as one integrated management system. Throughout the book, readers will discover practical Excellence Frameworks, maturity models, implementation methodologies, governance structures, key performance indicators (KPIs), best practices, discussion questions, and practical exercises designed to bridge the gap between theory and industry practic Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.…

This book has been written to address that challenge.
Unlike many project management books that focus only on planning techniques or individual knowledge areas, this volume adopts a holistic systems-thinking approach to understanding why construction mega projects fail and, more importantly, how those failures can be prevented.
The book examines failure from strategic, organizational, commercial, technical, and operational perspectives. Every chapter explores a major cause of project failure, analyzes why it occurs, examines its consequences, and presents practical management frameworks that can be immediately applied on real-world projects.
Drawing upon internationally recognized standards and best practices—including PMBOK®, AACE International Recommended Practices, FIDIC Conditions of Contract, ISO Management Standards, Lean Construction principles, Systems Thinking, Digital Engineering, BIM, Project Controls, Risk Management, and lessons learned from major international infrastructure projects—this book provides a comprehensive roadmap for improving project delivery performance.
Rather than treating project management disciplines as isolated functions, the book demonstrates how governance, leadership, planning, engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, commissioning, and operations must function as one integrated management system.
