The room that has stopped being willing to hear the case against itself looks exactly like a room that has done
the work, and most of what goes wrong next depends on whether anyone at the table can tell the difference. Part
of The Bias Files, Simon Blackwood's book examines how private doubt becomes public silence, and what that
silence costs in decisions that can't be unwound.
When Everyone Agrees, You're Wrong is not a corporate training manual, a guide to better brainstorming, or a
call for contrarian posturing. It is a forensic analysis of the eighteen-inch gap between what people know and
what they say-the documented mechanics of how capable teams ratify decisions they privately believe are
wrong.
Through case studies from war rooms, cockpits, and boardrooms, you will encounter the specific machinery of
institutional silence:
- The Tuesday Lunch Group: Five men escalating the Vietnam War-not because they were incompetent
or malicious, but because the room insulated them from challenge, and cohesion became a substitute for
testing.
- Performed Agreement: The measurable act of endorsing, on the record, a decision you believe is
incorrect-why intelligent people do it, and why it compounds across hierarchies.
- Warnings Nobody Carries Upstairs: How organizational distance turns critical information into
knowledge that everyone has but nobody surfaces, even when the people who need it are in the room.
- The Eighteen-Minute Gap: The documented interval between when a flight crew knows something is
catastrophically wrong and when someone finally says it out loud-and why technical competence doesn't
protect against it.
This book will not make you a better brainstormer or teach you to "embrace dissent." It will show you the
structural mechanics of how...
