Well illustrated article on the creation of the U.S. Signal service for delivering weather forecasts in this ORIGINAL ISSUE of Scribner's Monthly for Feb. 1871. Vol. 1, No. 4 issue. The original covers and all the contents still present if quite a bit worse for the wear. Still, much of the spine material remains, showing the date of the issue, and the binding of the issue is still serviceably tight. Short tears at edge of front cover especially. Name of former owner written in old pen at outside blank edge of the front cover. Lots of other varied content in this issue, much of it also illustrated. Ads at front and back. Lead article in the issue is about the New York Mercantile Library. It is also illustrated. Bookseller Inventory # 1939
