This Wastewater Treatment Engineering is a practical and comprehensive resource designed to help you understand wastewater treatment through clear engineering explanations, design principles, calculations, worked examples, and carefully developed visuals. It connects fundamental wastewater science with process selection, treatment plant design, operation, troubleshooting, water reuse, resource recovery, and modern sustainable engineering practice.
What This Book Helps You Master:
- Wastewater sources, characteristics, sampling, analysis, flow measurement, mass balances, loading rates, hydraulics, kinetics, and reactor fundamentals.
- Collection systems, pumping, preliminary treatment, screening, grit removal, flow equalization, sedimentation, and primary treatment.
- Physical and chemical processes including coagulation, flocculation, precipitation, flotation, adsorption, ion exchange, oxidation, and chemical dosing.
- Wastewater microbiology, biological kinetics, activated sludge, aeration, secondary clarification, biofilm systems, and natural treatment processes.
- Nitrogen and phosphorus removal, nitrification, denitrification, enhanced biological phosphorus removal, and biological nutrient removal systems.’
- Tertiary treatment, filtration, membrane processes, disinfection, advanced oxidation, and treatment of emerging contaminants.
- Water reclamation, nonpotable and potable reuse, multiple treatment barriers, monitoring, reliability, and public health protection.
- Sludge treatment, biosolids management, anaerobic digestion, dewatering, biogas production, nutrient recovery, and beneficial resource use.
- Treatment plant design, equipment selection, instrumentation, SCADA, process control, maintenance, safety, economics, regulations, sustainability, and climate resilience.
- Engineering diagrams, design calculations, practical examples, troubleshooting guidance, and reference information that connect treatment theory with real plant applications.
Are you an environmental, civil, chemical, sanitary, or water resources engineering student, practicing engineer, plant operator, consultant, researcher, instructor, or wastewater professional? This resource gives you a structured approach to understanding the engineering principles and practical decisions behind effective wastewater treatment.
Move beyond studying treatment processes in isolation. Learn to analyze wastewater characteristics, evaluate treatment alternatives, perform engineering calculations, understand plant performance, troubleshoot process problems, and connect treatment technologies with water reuse and resource recovery. Build the practical engineering understanding you need to approach modern wastewater treatment with greater clarity and confidence.
