For readers of Mark Greaney's Burner and Jay Newman's Undermoney, Volatile Men: Burn the Ships is a nerve‑shredding fusion of special‑ops action and financial warfare.
The global economy is a rich man's game played on a poor man's back. A group of contractors intends to break the scales. They don't wear uniforms. They're a blade in the dark, hired to sever the arteries of supply chains. Men who'd burn the world for a big enough payday to save their own families.
Their employer, the man they call the Madman, doesn't declare war. He reroutes supply chains, shorts stocks, and collapses currencies. He plays probability, not politics. Economic terrorism is his weapon. The death of a system is his goal.
As the team executes devastating strikes across the globe, they face the question they can no longer outrun: Will their piracy pay off, or will they go down with the ship?
FROM THE BOOK
The black RHIB cut through the inky water of the Strait of Malacca with a predator's silence. Five men in total, sheathed in black from head to toe, were rendered invisible. Only their eyes glowed behind night vision goggles. They were ghosts in the machine of global trade, hunting the largest of prey.
…
Robert's hand, lunged with the strength of the dying, locked onto Daniel's vest and pulled him close. The old man took one last, deep, agonizing gasp, his eyes boring into Daniel's.
"Never…" he choked, blood flecking his lips,...
…
Robie sat on the floor staring at his missing hand, screaming in incoherent pain. Red took out a tourniquet and began to apply it just below the shoulder, his fingers slipping from the blood as he threaded the tourniquet up the frayed arm.
"Well done, Robie. Well done. Look at me."
....
Isaac turned from the hostages on the bridge back to the second target building. The walls of the first floor dissolved with a massive explosion just as two seals exited the breach point door. The second floor hesitated for a millisecond that seemed to last an eternity and plunged its way through the dust that was the first floor.
VOLATILE MEN: BURN THE SHIPS — where the battlefield is global, the currency is chaos, and the only way out is through the fire.
