Marles Vitters Wilson grew up in rural South Dakota, the only girl in a family of eight boys, the daughter of poor yet proud tenant farmers. The Vitters' rented home lacked plumbing, running water, electricity and other amenities, and the children often went to bed not only hungry, but having to ward off bedbugs and rodents. Yet all nine Vitters siblings prospered in life. How did they do it? How did Marles Vitters Wilson realize her dream of becoming a teacher -- and eventually one of the most prominent educators in the country? "We Are The Vitters" is a fascinating American success story of nine siblings' struggles out of deprivation into the mainstream, how they overcame, and how they never forgot their roots. Illustrated with scores of compelling photos.

Marles Vitters Wilson put herself through college, made the dean's list, and realized her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher.
