Vinegar Street is a derelict, dreamscape of a place, but Poppy Picklesticks, who lives there on a diet of kippers and vindaloo, loves it. But one day the tingling voice inside her head warns her that an unwelcome change is on its way. Then Mandy Nylon, a newcomer, moves into Vinegar Street, threatening Poppy's way of life and everything that she loves. Poppy is determined not to let Mandy get the better of her, so she sets about to rescue Mandy's mistreated son, and bring love and care back to Vinegar Street.

Philip Ridley was born in the East End of London, where he still lives and works. He studied painting at St Martin's and went on to write adult novels, plays for radio and theatre, and the screenplay for THE KRAYS. He has written several highly-acclaimed, award-winning novels for children, including Krindlekrax, Kasper in the Glitter, Scribbleboy, Vinegar Street, and most recently, Zip's Apollo.
