History is wrong. For centuries, the legendary Carthaginian general has lived in the shadows, watching empires rise and fall while carrying the memory of a war Rome believed it had finished. Around him, seemingly ordinary lives become entangled with the conflict. Some are descendants of the men and women who shaped the ancient world. Others may be connected to the past in ways even Hannibal does not fully understand. And someone has been waiting a very long time for revenge.Moving between the ancient Mediterranean and contemporary Houston, Vindictus blends historical fiction, conspiracy, action, and suspense into a story about the long memory of vengeance-and what happens when the unfinished business of history finally comes due.The past never dies. History says Hannibal Barca died more than two thousand years ago.
History is wrong.
The legendary Carthaginian general who brought Rome to the brink of destruction is still alive. He has survived empires, revolutions, and centuries of change—but he has never forgotten what Rome took from him.
Now, in modern-day Houston, the fragile order that has protected his secret is beginning to fracture.
At the center of it is Natalie, a young woman who should mean nothing to Hannibal. Instead, something about her reaches across the centuries to Imilce, the Iberian princess he married, loved, and left behind when he marched toward Rome.
And Hannibal is not the only one who notices.
Powerful families with roots stretching deep into the ancient world are watching. Old allegiances are shifting. Someone is settling a debt that began long before any of them were born.
As Hannibal is drawn from the shadows, he must confront descendants of the world he once fought—and determine whether the past has returned to offer him something he thought lost forever, or to take from him once again.
Blending historical fiction, conspiracy thriller, and speculative suspense, VINDICTUS moves from the ancient Mediterranean to contemporary Houston in a story of memory, identity, love, and revenge.
The past never dies. It hunts.
