Arthur Miller's powerful two-act tragedy set in the Italian-American dockworker community of Red Hook, Brooklyn, exploring loyalty, jealousy, immigration, and moral law. Originally premiered in 1955 and later revised, A View from the Bridge stands as one of Miller's most enduring dramatic works, frequently staged and widely taught. This Penguin Plays edition includes a new introduction by the author, in which Miller reflects on the play's early reception, its relationship to The Crucible, and its later critical reassessment. The text is designed for the reading public and classroom use, with clear typography and a compact, portable format. Book is Very Good. Covers show moderate age toning and light edgewear, with mild rubbing and small creases at corners; spine intact and unfaded. A retail bargain price sticker from Kroch's & Brentano’s remains affixed to the front cover. Binding tight. Interior pages clean and unmarked, with even toning consistent with age; no writing, underlining, or loose leaves. Penguin Plays edition, first published in this Penguin format in 1977, as stated on the copyright page. Reprint of the 1960 Viking Compass edition with author's introduction. Printed in the USA. Not a book club edition. Kroch's and Brentano's was the largest bookstore in Chicago, and at one time it was the largest privately owned bookstore chain in the United States. The store and the chain were formed in 1954 through the merger of the separate Kroch's bookstore with the former Chicago branch of the New York-based Brentano's bookstore. The chain was closed in 1995 after suffering financial losses from increased competition. Arthur Miller (1915-2005) was one of the most influential American playwrights of the 20th century, best known for Death of a Salesman, The Crucible, and A View from the Bridge. A Pulitzer Prize winner, Miller's work is noted for its moral seriousness, psychological depth, and critique of social responsibility. …
