Seller: White Fox Rare Books and Antiques, ABAA/ILAB, New York, NY, U.S.A.
Condition: Very Good. N.d., circa 1890. Measuring 15.5 by 11.5 cm, 23 mm thick. Cameo is a chromolithograph of a Victorian beauty, perhaps a likeness of a well-known actress of the day. This is surrounded by a gilt paper decoration, as is the perimeter of the front board. Edges are all gilt paper pastedowns. Spine is a crimson felt fabric, with five narrow strips of celluloid to suggest raised bands. We believe the boards, too, have a celluloid veneer. We believe this was originally a candy box based on the doily edging of the interior, but the box could have served a multitude of other purposes just as easily. Condition: light to moderate wear. One of the celluloid spine bands is half-perished. Seller Inventory # 006699
