Vedic Mathematics is a system of mental arithmetic rediscovered in the early twentieth century from a set of sixteen short Sanskrit aphorisms the sutras. Once you learn them, the standard school methods will feel slow and clumsy by comparison. This book is an invitation, written for the complete beginner. The methods are short, memorable, and extraordinarily fun to learn. WHAT'S INSIDE- The 16 main sutras and 13 sub-sutras, with plain-English translations- Nikhilam multiplication near a base (97 x 96 in three small steps)- The Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam universal method (any two numbers, one line)- Squaring and cubing techniques that beat the calculator- Quick division by 9, 11, and any number near a base- Square roots and cube roots by pattern recognition- Recurring decimals like 1/19 worked out in seconds- Divisibility tests for 7, 13, 19, and other tricky primes- Algebraic equations and matrix arithmetic the Vedic way- 32 chapters, hundreds of worked examples, a complete Quick Reference appendix>Anyone who wants to do arithmetic faster - students preparing for entrance exams, teachers looking for engaging methods, professionals who calculate daily, and curious adults who want to see numbers in a new light.
