This edition of Village Buildings of Britain by Matthew Rice offers a beautifully observed tour of the architectural forms that shape rural settlements across the country. Rice highlights the character of cottages, farmhouses, churches and small civic buildings, explaining how local materials, regional traditions and practical needs produced such varied and distinctive styles. His illustrations capture details of stonework, timbering, rooflines and vernacular ornament, helping readers see how these structures fit into their landscapes and communities. It’s an affectionate, knowledgeable celebration of Britain’s village architecture, aimed at deepening appreciation for the everyday buildings that define rural life.
