Urban-Rural Assembly : A Handbook for Co-Visioning Interconnected Regions

As our planet has become increasingly urbanized, the ways in which we think about cities and urbanism are also being fundamentally reconfigured. However, current urban planning approaches often remain stuck in urban-rural dualisms. Across geographies and disciplines, interconnected regions and globalized hinterlands need new and more relevant conceptualizations and methodologies to better capture emerging forms of urban-rural development. Moreover, understanding the multilayered interrelationships and material flows between "city" and "countryside" is key if we are to aim towards more sustainable transformation of wider territories. Anke Hagemann ist Professorin am Fachgebiet Habitat Unit der Technischen Universität Berlin und leitende Principal Investigator des Forschungsprojekts „Urban-Rural Assembly“. Sie forscht und publiziert zu den Themen Stadt-Hinterland-Beziehungen, globale Warenzirkulation und urbane Räume, Urlaubsarchitekturen und urbane Megaevents.

Ava Lynam ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin des Forschungsprojekts „Urban-Rural Assembly“ am China Center (CCST) und Doktorandin an der Habitat Unit, beide an der Technischen Universität Berlin. Sie erforscht Mobilität, sozio-räumliche Ungleichheit und die translokale Produktion von Raum in global verbundenen Grenzregionen in China und Südostasien.

Gaoli Xiao ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Forschungsprojekts „Urban-Rural Assembly“ der Habitat Unit, an der TU Berlin und Doktorandin am Zentrum für Entwicklungsforschung (ZEF) an der Universität Bonn. Ihre Forschung befasst sich mit kritischen Migrationstheorien, Neoliberalismus, Macht und sozialer Gerechtigkeit.

Wolfgang Wende ist Leiter des Forschungsbereichs Landschaft, Ökosysteme und Biodiversität am Leibniz-Institut für ökologische Raumentwicklung und einer der Principal Investigator des Forschungsprojekts „Urban-Rural Assembly“. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind deutsche und internationale Mitigation Regulation Systems (IMR), Biodiversitäts-Offsets und Habitat Banking.

Li Fan war Senior Researcher am Lehrstuhl der Habitat Unit an der Technischen Universität Berlin und Koordinatorin des Forschungsprojekts „Urban-Rural Assembly“. Ihr Hauptforschungsgebiet ist die städtische und ländliche Regeneration sowie die Politik und Steuerung des städtischen Wandels.

Sigrun Langner ist Professorin für Landschaftsarchitektur und Landschaftsplanung an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und Principal Investigator im Forschungsprojekt „Urban-Rural Assembly“. In ihrer Forschung konzentriert sie sich auf „rurbane“ Landschaften, in denen Stadt und Land auf komplexe Art und Weise miteinander verschränkt sind, und bringt dabei Kartierungsmethoden als Praktiken der Wissens- und Ideenfindung für eine klima- und wasserbewusste Landschaftsgestaltung zum Einsatz.

Maria Frölich-Kulik ist Wissenschaftlerin im Projekt „Urban-Rural Assembly“ und Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für Landschaftsarchitektur und -planung der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen auf rurbanen Landschaften, den Effekten von urban-ruralen Transformationsprozessen sowie kollaborativen und ko-kreativen Planungsformaten und -strategien vom Gebäude- bis regionalen Maßstab.

Laura Henneke ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Habitat Unit der Technischen Universität Berlin und Teil des „Urban-Rural Assembly“-Teams. Ihre Forschungsinteressen umfassen Infrastrukturen, globale Warenketten, globale Korridore und die Verwendung visueller Methoden zur Untersuchung von Sozialräumlichkeit.

Lukas Pappert ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Habitat Unit der Technischen Universität Berlin und Teil des „Urban-Rural Assembly“-Teams. Seine wissenschaftlichen und praktischen Aktivitäten konzentrieren sich auf die Erforschung und Weiterentwicklung von Instrumenten für die nachhaltige und kooperative Transformation von Stadt-Land-Regionen.

Anke Hagemann is acting Professor at Habitat Unit, Technische Universität Berlin, and lead Principal Investigator of “Urban-Rural Assembly.” She researches and publishes on city-hinterland relationships, global commodity circulation and urban spaces, holiday architectures, and urban mega-events.

Sigrun Langner is Professor of landscape architecture and landscape planning at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and one of the Principal Investigators in the “Urban-Rural Assembly” research project. Her research focuses on “rurban landscapes” as an expression of complex urban-rural interrelationships, incorporating mapping methods as practices of knowledge and idea generation in large-scale landscape planning and design.

Maria Frölich-Kulik is Senior Researcher at the chair of Landscape Architecture and Planning of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and part of the “Urban-Rural Assembly” team. She specializes in researching rurban landscapes, urban-rural transformation processes and co-creative planning strategies from building to regional scale.

Laura Henneke is Researcher at the Habitat Unit at the Technische Universität Berlin and part of the “Urban-Rural Assembly” team. Her research interests include infrastructures, global commodity chains, global corridors and the use of visual methods to investigate socio-spatiality.

Lukas Pappert is Researcher at the Habitat Unit at Technische Universität Berlin and part of the “Urban-Rural Assembly” team. His scientific and practical activities focus on the investigation and further development of tools for the sustainable and cooperative transformation of urban-rural regions.
