The Urban Cookbook is an indepth investigation into five great cities where the street sets the creative agenda: New York, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam and London. After a general introduction, King Adz tells the story of his trip to each of the five cities, takes the reader on a walk around neighbourhoods that buzz with street life, where the best food can be found, and talks to the keenest creative talents – photographers, illustrators, designers, graphic and graffiti artists, skaters, DJs, club owners, musicians, talent scouts and internet entrepreneurs. Then he offers eight recipes from which to cook up dishes that he ate on the streets of the city, and detailed descriptions of their work by a couple of his talents – anything from Rodney Smith’s skate products to Miss Blackbirdy’s original fashions, Tristan Eaton’s vinyl toys and Jonathan Olley’s pukka photos. The result is a feast of a wholly original kind, born out of the edgy rugged culture of the street.
About the Author: King ADZ is the author of nine books, published by Thames & Hudson, HarperCollins, and Vintage. All his books to date have been concerned with youth-culture, sub-culture and street art. He has been creative consultant for numerous global brands including Adidas, Vice, Levis, Diesel, Smirnoff and Guinness. His feature documentary, The Iconoclast, profiling the notorious international art smuggler, Michel Van Rijn, premiered at the DOC NYC festival in 2017.
