This 1912 combination daily calendar and personal notebook was a gratuity given out, "Compliments of Central Hotel, Boonville, N.Y., E. J. Kirley, Proprietor". The daily calendar and the blank memorandum pages have never been used. The booklet is bound in a rich, dark pressed cloth with gilt lettering on the front, as well as an embossed 1912 in a scroll ( also on the front, but which hardly shows up). The booklet measures 2 3/4" x 5 5/8" and just about 100 pages. It had to have been printed in 1911 to be of use in 1912. I was not able to find out much about the Central Hotel. It was built by Matthew Siter and operated by Jerry Buckley. I do know that it was operating at 40 Main Street. According to the 1869-1870 "Gazatteer and Business Directory of Oneida County", John Jones was listed as the proprietor. By 1912, E. J. Kirley was proprietor. I do not know how many of these 1912 complementary notebooks that Kirley had made for distribution, but we are lucky that this specimen survived - and without having been used to boot! Leafing through the contents, we find first, a single-page Calendar for the year 1912 ; next is a page for personal information : Name, address, Office phone, etc. ; next is a page giving Rates of Postage, including foreign postage; next are two pages listing the largest cities in the United States, as of the 1910 Census; next are a few informational pages with standard time, estimate of population, weights and measures, Useful Information for Builders, average times for various foods to be digested, tips for cleaning various substances, etc; next is an address section; then the Daily Calendar, Memorandum, and Cash Account sections, which take up most of the booklet (These have not been used). After the Cash Account section are Antidotes for Poison, a page of Help in Accidents, then a page of Timber Measures, next a Table of Wages; Legal Holidays; then a page of Interest Laws and Statutes of Limitations. After that is a single page for Telephone Numbers. The notebook ends with a single page calendar for 1913. You may be hard-pressed to find another specimen such as this . a true relic in the history of Boonville, New York.…
