An uncorrected proof copy of The Unloved by Arnot Lustig, published by Macmillan, London in 1986. A fine copy, the soft front cover and spine a little shelf worn. In a near fine wrapper with toning to the spine. The Unloved: From the Diary of Perla S. by Arnot Lustig is a haunting novel presented as the diary of 17 year old Perla, imprisoned in the Theresienstadt ghetto. To survive, she becomes a camp prostitute, bartering intimacy for bread and candles. Through her detached journal entries, Lustig explores themes of resilience, emotional numbness and moral integrity amid the horrors of her environment. Perla finds solace in small pleasures, like observing the moon or befriending a rat, revealing the human capacity for dignity when everything else is lost.
