Synopsis
A glimpse in the content of the book by the well-known New Jersey based Indo-American poet Prof. Chandrakant P. Desai. About the Author
Chandrakant P. Desai has been writing poems in English for the last 25 years, and in Gujarati for the last 55 years. His publications include collections of poems and two non-fiction works in English. He was Professor of Engineering for twenty years in the university. He was Dean of the Engineering Faculty, and Director of German language course for seven years at the University in India. He did advanced research in Electrical Engineering at the University in Germany during 1958-60. From 1976 for over seventeen years, he worked with American Engineering Companies in senior Engineering positions, which required him to work for one year in Mexico, where he learned Spanish too. He is the winner of the New Jersey Poetry Society Award (2001), and the first Indo-American poet invited to read a patriotic poem at the inauguration of the newly elected congress, by congressman Rush Holt at Capitol Hill, Washington D.C. (2003). He was honored by the Mayor of Franklin Township, NJ for his excellent contribution in English poetry (2002). He is the founder and chairperson of The Indo-American Literary Academy (2001-2011), organizing its literary meetings in English and several Indian languages at Barnes and Noble Bookstore in New Jersey. He was the editor in chief of The Anthology of Poems, published by The Academy in English and three Indian languages (2005). This Anthology received a grant from the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission of NJ State; and was highly appreciated by Hon. Governor of NJ state. New Jersey’s Star-Ledger Daily Newspaper named him as the Literary Leader and poet promoting cultural heritage. He was the winner of The Diaspora Poetry Award from the London-based OPINION magazine (2006). He received an award from Gujarat State’s Literary Academy of India (2008) for his German Poet Rilke’s translations, straight from German to Gujarati. Besides English, he knows three Indian languages, German and Spanish.
