Vol. 1: xlii, 1022 p. with 10 foldout plates/maps; [8], 796 p. with 1 foldout map; vi, 884 p. with 3 maps (cuttings taken from 2 maps); Vol. 4: vi, 848 p. with 9 plates (8 are foldouts and 3 have descriptive information cut out of the map); Vol. 5: iv, [2], 744 p. with 4 foldout maps; Vol. 6 missing title page [4], 871, [48] p. with no illustrations. 37 cm folios in full leather. Gilt with red and green labels on spines. Includes numerous engraved plates throughout all the volumes. All volumes show considerable wear from time and usage: cracks and tears in leather, soiling and scuffing to boards and spine, bumped and torn corners. All bindings remain intact. Pages clean and text clear. Sold "as is" and subject to additional shipping charges due to weight. Various contributors. A 65 volume study in its entirety, this set includes only the first 6 volumes. The history may be debatable but its historical significance as a document of 18th century understanding of history, as well as the beauty of its presentation, make the set a valuable collector's item. All volumes in very good condition, except for Vol. 5, which is seriously damaged by bookworm. All volumes rubbed and bumped. Age darkened edges and end papers. Very few annotations. Top edge of volume 19 marked with red felt pen. Internally age darkened with the occasional closed tear. Some plates with closed tears and poor folding. Overall a very nice and interesting set with some amazing Plates and Maps.
