Print on Demand. This book reexamines one of the most widely accepted premises of modern scholarship: that the first five books of the Bible, known as The Pentateuch, were not written by Moses but are a compilation of disparate documents. Focusing on the first book of the Pentateuch, Genesis, this meticulously detailed and compelling book presents evidence that Genesis, and indeed the entire Pentateuch, constitutes the definitive work of a single author. Making his rigorous case line-by-line, the author gives keen attention to the precision of the text, demonstrating that it is not a patchwork of sources but rather a continuous narrative with its parts closely interwoven. Complex questions of vocabulary, language usage, style, and cultural context are explored, and overarching themes are teased out, revealing a common plan and purpose running throughout the text. This groundbreaking work provides a robust defense of the integrity and authorship of an ancient religious text that has faced increasing skepticism in recent years. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The author walks readers through the history of Pentateuch criticism, explains the document hypothesis, and shows how the Genesis text is analyzed chapter by chapter. The goal is to help theology students, ministers, and curious lay readers understand the book of Genesis in its connection to the wider Pentateuch, with careful attention to language, structure, and scholarly argument.
- Framing the central question: is Genesis a unified work or a blend of documents?
- Evidence and arguments for and against the document hypothesis, presented fairly.
- Guidance on how critical methods relate to reading Genesis as part of sacred Scripture.
- Practical context for students and readers seeking a deeper grasp of the book’s place in biblical history.
Ideal for readers of biblical criticism, theology students, and anyone seeking a careful, scholarly view of Genesis in its literary and historical context.
