The GDPR applies to your business. But where do you actually start?
Most guides either drown you in legal jargon or stay so vague they leave you with more questions than answers. This one is different — because it was written by someone who has been on both sides of the desk.
Fanny Cornette holds a doctorate in law and has taught data protection to entrepreneurs for over 15 years. She is also a business owner herself. She knows exactly where small business owners get stuck — and wrote this book to get you unstuck.
"Understanding the GDPR" gives you a clear, step-by-step path from confusion to compliance. No legal background required.
What You Will Learn:
— What the GDPR actually covers, and whether it applies to you
— What counts as personal data (the answer may surprise you)
— How to collect customer data legally and ethically
— What a Data Processing Agreement is and when you need one
— How long to keep data — and when you must delete it
— What your customers can ask of you, and how to respond
— How to build a Record of Processing Activities (ROPA) in a simple spreadsheet
— What to do in the first 72 hours after a data breach
— How to avoid fines of up to €20 million or 4% of annual turnover
Perfect for:
- Small and medium-sized business owners
- Freelancers and self-employed professionals
- Startups and growing companies
- Online sellers, consultants, and service providers
- Anyone operating in the EU — or serving EU customers from anywhere in the world
Inside, you will find:
— Plain language that replaces jargon, not just explains it
— 20+ real-world examples drawn from everyday business situations
— Practical checklists and action steps you can use immediately
— A step-by-step compliance roadmap designed for non-lawyers
You do not need a lawyer to get compliant. You need the right starting point.
