"Understanding Environmental and Public Health Laws in Liberia" is a comprehensive and insightful exploration of the legal frameworks governing environmental protection and public health in the Republic of Liberia. Written by Mogana S. Flomo, Jr., a distinguished authority in the field of environmental and public health law, this book delves into the intricacies of Liberia's legal provisions, offering a critical analysis of the laws, regulations, and policies that underpin these vital sectors.
In this meticulously crafted academic textbook, readers are taken on a journey through Liberia's legal landscape, from the Environmental Protection and Management Law to the intricacies of the Public Health Law of 1976 and beyond. Flomo's expertise shines through as he elucidates the historical context, legal structures, and practical implications of these laws.
Readers will discover how Liberia's Environmental Protection and Management Law (2002) serves as the linchpin for environmental conservation, establishing institutions, mandates, and regulations to safeguard the nation's natural resources. The book provides real-life examples and case studies that illustrate how this law functions in practice, including the enforcement of environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and permit systems.
The Forestry Law of 2006 comes under scrutiny, emphasizing the vital role it plays in the sustainable management of Liberia's forests. Flomo elucidates the intricacies of regulating forestry activities, from logging to timber processing, and underscores the imperative to protect biodiversity and wildlife.
Readers will gain a profound understanding of Liberia's commitment to conserving its natural heritage through the National Parks and Protected Areas Law of 2017, which provides a legal framework for the establishment and management of protected areas. The Fisheries Regulations (2010) are also explored in detail, focusing on their pivotal role in promoting responsible fishing practices and resource conservation.
The Hazardous Waste Management Regulations of 2013 come under scrutiny, showcasing Liberia's commitment to protecting public health and the environment from hazardous waste. The book dives deep into these regulations, elucidating their requirements for waste generators, transporters, and safe handling procedures.
But this book is not limited to just the statutes and regulations. It weaves a tapestry of practical examples, case studies, and real-life applications, making it a valuable resource for students, policymakers, legal practitioners, and anyone interested in the complex interplay of law, environment, and health in Liberia.
Flomo's commitment to unraveling the challenges and opportunities for the implementation of environmental and public health laws in Liberia is evident throughout the book. The text is enhanced by illustrative examples, in-depth case studies, and authoritative references, all contributing to a holistic understanding of the subject matter.
"Understanding Environmental and Public Health Laws in Liberia" is more than a book; it's a beacon of knowledge that serves as a vital resource for those who seek to comprehend and contribute to the preservation of Liberia's natural wealth and the well-being of its people.
