About the Author:

Born in Brazil in 1944, Sebastićo Salgado began his career as an economist before shifting to photography in 1973. Sebastićo Salgado has covered major news events around the world - the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan, wars in Angola and the Spanish Sahara, the taking of Israeli hostages in Entebbe, while also pursuing more personal and in-depth documentary projects. For seven years he roamed Latin America, walking for days to remote mountain villages; the result of this journey was Autres Ameriques (Other Americas), which received the Kodak/City of Paris award.
