Excerpt from Umbria Capta: Read Before the Philological Section of the Canadian Institute, April 25th, 1887
Taking advantage of Gallic dissentions, the Genoese of Liguria_ either took Placentia, or taking possession of the surrounding coun try, besieged it. Herti, alluding to this result of disunion, sum moned the Ticinates and the faithful Fenians to aid him in deliver ing this city from its invaders. He next turned his attention to Bergomum which was similarly besieged by the rebellious Petscli. Through the loyal Boii, he succeeded in winning back Verona. The people of this city and Vannia endeavoured to get Arnipo,-the Na bepara of the Etruscan Tables, who had been sent from Umbranum in the country of the Boii to quell rebellion in Venetia, but who had himself rebelled - to join them in loyalty. He refused to do so, and going westward tried to incite the people of Comum to deeds of violence. The example of Verona, however, was contagious and many disloyal tribes even among the Perscli and the Cenomani, te turned to their allegiance. The original inhabitants of Bononia and the Claternians gave assistance.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a groundbreaking interpretation of the enigmatic Umbrian Inscriptions, ancient records that have puzzled scholars for centuries. The author argues that these inscriptions, far from being mere religious texts, constitute a historical narrative of great significance for understanding the political and military events of ancient Italy. The author's interpretation is based on a deep understanding of Celtic languages and cultures, as well as a careful analysis of the historical context in which the inscriptions were created. The result is a compelling and detailed account of the conflicts, alliances, and betrayals that shaped the fate of Umbria and its neighboring regions. The book's insights shed new light on the complex interactions between Celtic tribes, Etruscan cities, and Roman power. It offers a fresh perspective on the rise and fall of ancient civilizations and provides valuable information for historians, linguists, and anyone interested in the rich tapestry of ancient Italy.
