I Once Searched for Control
Growing up I faced childhood trauma, sexual abuse, relentless bullying, mental health issues, and the pain of an alcoholic parent. From childhood to young adulthood my life felt out of control, I fell into darkness trying to gain a sense of control. I struggled with my identity and self-worth; I made choices that furthered my feeling of emptiness. I wanted to find control over my own life and agency; I made choices I believed would grant me autonomy only to find a further loss of control.
This book is about trading the worldly illusion of control for true, life-giving freedom that is found in the fear of the Lord. It is a testimony of the peace that comes when we stop trying to be the master of our own life and instead live a life that honors and glorifies God. This story is about taking the old self off and nailing the past to the cross. It is about moving out of fear and shame and stepping into the light and freedom of Jesus Christ.

This is a reminder to lay all the striving down and take up his yoke for his burden is light.
