-John A. Nolan, III author of Confidential: Uncover Your Competitors’ Top Business Secrets Legally and Quickly-and Protect Your Own
True masters don't need to promote themselves. Ellen Naylor is one of those rare few. I’m incredibly fortunate to call her a friend and mentor. Her book is a timely reminder—especially in our post-COVID world—of the lost art of real human connection and the power of genuine conversation. Elicitation isn’t just a skill; it’s a practice we need to revive, and Ellen shows us how.
-Jay Nakagawa, Former Chairman, SCIP (Strategic Consortium of Intelligence Professionals)
With over three decades in the Competitive Intelligence (CI) field, I consider Loosen Their Lips a masterclass in the art and science of communication and elicitation. Naylor astutely reminds us that nothing can replace the power of genuine human-to-human interaction. Naylor’s research and real-world case studies illustrate the value of the “human factor” in successful elicitation. Loosen Their Lips delivers practical wisdom and strategic guidance to elevate your skills and mindset.
-Laurie Young, former Vice-Chairman, SCIP (Strategic Consortium of Intelligence Professionals)
Ellen Naylor’s latest masterpiece is a natural successor to John Nolan’s Confidential. Its conversational and instructive style brings teaching points to life through her project experience and insights and third-party comments. Key concepts include Nolan’s Elicitation Conversational Hourglass, Elicitation Simplified, the 5Ps, and DiSC. Each chapter ends with a summary and actionable challenges. Ideal to understand human interactions better and for curious minds desiring richer, more human contact in our screen-based world.
-Andrew Beurschgens, Market and Customer Insight Leader
Some of the simplest concepts...like listening with intent...can and often do offer the most powerful insights. These are lessons you’ve learned because you are always paying attention and in the moment. Full of these nuggets of wisdom, it will be of value to all who seek deep human insights for gaining advantages. Who won’t benefit from that?
